Full-funnel reporting should not invent an AI-search conversion channel

NEWS / SOLUTION

Google's AI-feature documentation clarifies why marketers should use available Search reporting carefully and avoid unsupported attribution.

Full-funnel reporting should not invent an AI-search conversion channel

What Google says its reporting shows

Google Search Central says its guidance for AI Overviews and AI Mode is covered by existing Search fundamentals. Its documentation describes Search Console's overall web performance reporting, rather than presenting a distinct report for every AI-feature interaction.

That is a statement about Google's documented guidance and reporting context, not proof that every AI-driven journey is invisible. It does mean marketers should avoid claiming a separate, fully observable AI channel unless their own data actually supports that distinction.

Preserve source definitions across systems

In a full-funnel model, keep Search Console queries and clicks, web analytics sessions, campaign parameters, and CRM source fields distinct until their definitions and links have been validated. A combined dashboard should disclose the joins and missing steps.

Check whether landing paths, dates, and conversion events align before interpreting trends. A prospect may discover a brand in one context and return through another, so a final recorded source is not automatically the full account of influence.

Make decisions without false precision

The agency interpretation is to use Google's source as a reminder to prioritize useful Search fundamentals and honest measurement. Compare leading signals with qualified outcomes and sales feedback, then mark an explanation as a hypothesis when attribution cannot establish it.

Full-Funnel Growth benefits from an explicit data caveat more than an invented category. Google documents the existing fundamentals and aggregate Search reporting; a business should invest based on its actual evidence, not an assumed AI-specific performance story.
